Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) soon to construct about 10,000 flats in first phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Authority organized a meeting to consider the required number of houses to be constructed at various locations of Chandigarh. As a conclusion of this meeting, a decision was taken to build flats in EWS (Economically Weaker Section), LIG (Low Income group), MIG (Middle Income Group)-(I) & MIG-(II) categories.
Construction of houses will be started in the month of October 2017. To identify required number of houses, board held a demand survey in all urban areas of Chandigarh & board has already started verifying all applications which were received during demand survey. Around 25,000 applicants were found eligible. .
Details of Flats under PM Awas Yojana

Tentative cost of flats for LIG Flat is Rs. 20 lakh & Rs. 35 lakh for MIG Flats.
Administration has found around 110 acre land for implementing CHB Chandigarh Housing Scheme 2017. Board has ensured to provide land on subsidized rates.
To apply for Chandigarh Housing Scheme, candidate needs to meet eligibility criteria as mentioned below:
- Candidate must be a resident of Chandigarh & residing in urban area.
- Must have Aadhar Card, Voter ID Card.
- Annual income of applicant must be Rs. 6-12 lakh for MIG-I & Rs. 12-18 lakh for MIG-II.
Beneficiaries will be provided subsidy on interest, which is different for every category candidate.
Authority had invited applications from public through Online, Offline mode & through E-Sampark Centers for allotment of flats. About 1.23 lakh applications have been submitted by the applicants. Authority is verifying candidates who are eligible to buy house.
According to officers, 36,382 applications through manually/offline mode, 40,524 through online mode & 45,993 application through E-Sampark Centers were made.
Out of 1.23 lakh applications, 51,000 people have been found selected.
Houses will be allotted to 10,000 beneficiaries under phase-I of PMAY. Possession will be given by July 2019.
Allotment Process: Allotment process of houses will be based on draw of lots.
Administration has started identifying vacant land to fulfil land requirement for construction of flats. To consider this matter, CM of Puducherry & Lt. Governor of Delhi attended a meeting. As a conclusion houses will be built in Chandigarh. Chairman of CHB has ensured to complete project within 18 months as to provide houses to applicants as soon as possible.
