Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is putting up 1000 affordable houses for sale in November 2018. Homebuyers looking for affordable houses in Mumbai and Mumbai suburbs will get another opportunity to buy low-cost houses. Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority will being tolerating application for these 1000 affordable houses from September and will conduct a lottery around Diwali season in November 2018.

The complete of scheme and detailed features of the housing offered in the lottery are described in Advertisement Listing and its area will be published in a few weeks.These Houses will be located in area such as Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Mankhurd, Wadala, Sion, Borivli, Goregaon and Mulund. There are 283 houses for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), 500 for Low Income Group (LIG), 216 for Medium Income Groups (MIG) and 2 for Higher Income Group (HIG). Housing Minister Prakash Mehta said,”The Lottery will be conducted by November this year. I have asked the authority to make the online system as easy and user-friendly as possible for applicants.”
Addressing the delays for obtaining occupation certificate for MHADA building, Which is a problem faced by lottery winner, Mehta said such pending or delayed cases will be expedited as MHADA has been accorded as the planning authority. He said, “This move will facilitate spedy approvals for its low-cost housing projects and will avoid unwanted delay in the future.”
Meanwhile on Saturday 25th August 2018, the families of applicants who won 9,018 affordable flats in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region constructed by the state housing authority were overjoyed. The Lottery was organised by the MHADA Konkan Board and had houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Housing Scheme.
Pramila Davane, 28, won the lottery in her 1st attempt. Davane who was born deaf and mute, faced several difficulties in getting a job. After completing her animation course and securing a job, Davane`s family applied under the physical handicap category and won a hiuse in Virar. Unable to express her feeling in words. Davane drew a sketch where she was happily surrounded by buildings.
