Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sanctioned 6.28 lakh more affordable houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) (PMAY-U) for the benefit of urban poor. The approval was given in the 38th meeting of the Cental Sanctioning and Monitoring Committe in its meeting.The Central Government is going to provide 6,28,488 houses to poor urban under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). In CSMC 38th meeting Uttar Pradesh has been sanctioned 2,34,879 houses while the Andhra Pradesh gets 1,40,559 affordable houses and MP gets over 74,000 houses, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Odisha gets substantial Approvals.With the above proposed houses, cumulative approvals under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) have become 60,28,608 after final approval from CSMC.
The number of houses sanctioned for Madhya Pradesh is 74,631, Bihar 50,017 houses, Chattisgarh 30,371 houses, Gujarat 29,185 houses. Maharashtra has been sanctioned 22,265 houses and Tamil Nadu 20,794 houses.Approvals given for Odishastands at 13,421 houses, Tripura has been sanctioned 9,778 houses while Manipur got 2,588 houses.
Considering the extraodinary situation due to heavy flood in Kerala the ministry has decided to release Rs.486,87 Cr for 1st and 2nd instalments together by relaxing norm in the sanctioned projects under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) .The ministry has futher advised the government of Kerala that they may submit project proposals as soon as possible for construction of Houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).These would include flood affected persons/houses holds who are eligible under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
